Buckingham Lions celebrate 90 years of history

It was last Saturday, November 30, that the members of the Buckingham Lions Club celebrated their 90th anniversary as a service club.

In front of nearly 200 people invited and gathered at the Knights of Columbus hall, nothing was left to chance to properly mark this anniversary.

Welcome cocktail, projection on giant screens of the history of the club, gourmet meal served by the St-Estèphe Caterer with background music from the Daniel Lafleur Duo; then the beautiful story of the Buckingham Lions Club, founded in December 1934, was told to them. First in turn by the master of ceremonies and former president of the club, Ken MacMillan. Then the current president, Lion Jocelyn Fréchette introduced the many dignitaries present and reminded us of certain important moments of the club, emphasizing in passing that last year the Lions had given more than $225,000 in various donations helping the most deprived, supporting the health and education sectors among others.

He was followed on the microphone by the Governor of District A-4 of Lion International, Lion Roxanne Backes, who came to highlight the importance that the Buckingham club had in its community.

The final word went to the president of this committee, Lion Norm MacMillan, a member for 56 years who recounted the broad outlines of the club's history. Remembering in passing that the first activity that the founding members of 1934 had created was to feed families in need. 90 years later, this uninterrupted activity over the years has been the one that has united the Lions and the community. This year, more than 445 food baskets will be delivered to families in need or single people on December 22.

This grandiose evening could not have taken place without exceptional sponsors whom he wanted to thank: Caisses Desjardins au Cœur des Vallées and its CEO. Roger Lafrenière, the Deputy Minister of Papineau- Mathieu Lacombe, the Canadian Tire of Buckingham and its owner Mr. Jean Leblond, Mr. Hugues Carle of Carle Ford, Pharmacies Jean Coutu and their new owners Fouad Farah and Joanne Richer without counting our friends the Knights of Columbus and their Grand Knight Claude Masson who for two days provided us with their reception rooms free of charge.

On behalf of the organizing committee made up of Lions Norm MacMillan, Richard Besner, Armand Renaud, Mario Ouimet, Guy Saumur, Guy Charbonneau, Mathieu Daoust, Alex Mauzeroll and all the members of the Buckingham Lions Club, thank you to all of you merchants, businesses and generous donors for supporting us for 90 years. We guarantee that our organization will still be present for dozens more years; ready to help the most disadvantaged in our society.

THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF YOUR HEART!

A Memorable Christmas: Thanks to the Lions and Volunteers!

🎁 Lion President Luc-André Faubert would like to thank all the Lions members and VOLUNTEERS who participated directly or indirectly in THE SUCCESS of the weekend for the creation and delivery of Christmas baskets.
More than 125 volunteers worked on this great success THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
We delivered 355 Christmas baskets, several gifts for children and many diapers. 355 baskets represent more than 1000 people who will have a good meal at Christmas.
Thanks to your participation this feat was accomplished between 8:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Special thanks to Lion Philippe Goulet; conductor of all the logistics of the preparation and deliveries of Christmas baskets who made everything run smoothly.
Lion Jean Guy Laframboise; for the preparation of the “RUN” for delivery so that we do not walk from Buckingham to Angers for each delivery.
Lion Jean Paul Bisson; who again this year was the bridge between volunteers and the delivery of Christmas baskets so that everything went smoothly.
Leo Horace Gauthier; our patriarch who at the age of 94 wanted to participate in this activity, what a great proof of Lionism. Thank you Lion Horace.
Obviously I saved a special thank you for Lion Yves Goulet and his partner Ginette Haspect.
For more than a month, Ginette has been buying gifts, going around the region's shops, EVERY DAY so that we can offer ALL young people a gift for the holidays.
I would also like to point out that Lion Yves and Ginette have been sacrificing their living room for a month for welcoming and wrapping gifts and with all this dedication Ginette takes the time to prepare us good desserts for Saturday and Sunday THANK YOU.
Lion Yves with his dedication for several years and especially in the last month has been working to ensure we have all the necessary equipment so that we can accomplish this feat that we have done AND MUCH MORE. Although he passed the committee to Lion Jocelyn Fréchette who is learning on the job, what all this involves and who has devoted himself completely, Lion Yves responded, once again, to ensure that we lack of nothing.
No member of the Buckingham Lion Club seeks glory, but I thought some thanks was necessary.
Now all that remains is for me to wish you and your family happy holidays with friends.
Thank you on my behalf and on behalf of your management office for your support throughout the year.
Take advantage of this time to rest and return to the Lions Club in good health.
Lion President,
Luc-André Faubert
